    Preparations before Myomectomy Treatment

    Myomectomy treatment is the surgical way to remove the fibroids in the uterus so before the surgery doctors provide you with some instructions for before and aftercare

    • Even some medications are also prescribed before the surgery so that size of fibroids can be reduced up to some extent.
    • Moreover, the doctor can also prescribe some tests like blood test, MRI scan, Pelvic ultrasound or Electrocardiogram to know about your best health and extent of your problem.
    • You can be asked to stop the intake of medications like vitamin, supplements and other over the counter medicines, before the surgery.
    • If you have the habit of smoking then it can hamper your healing process so you have to quit smoking for at least 6-8 weeks before and after surgery.
    • You can be asked not to eat and drink by the midnight the night before the surgery

    What is the Myomectomy procedure?

    This procedure has been done according to the fibroids in the uterus so can be of following three types

    Abdominal Myomectomy procedure

    This surgical procedure has been done under the local anesthesia. During this procedure, the incision is made in the lower abdomen into the uterus and this incision can be made horizontally 3 to 4inches long over the pubic bone or it can be vertical incision below the belly button and just above the pubic bone.
    The vertical incision is generally made for the bigger fibroids and for this type of procedure the patient has to stay in the hospital for 1-3 days.
    Recovery time for this procedure is 4-6weeks.

    Laparoscopic Myomectomy procedure

    This procedure has been done under the general anesthesia. In this procedure, the surgeon makes four small ½ inch long incisions in the lower abdomen of the patient. Then through the incisions belly is filled with carbon dioxide and through another incision, the laparoscope is placed to get the better view of the abdomen.
    During the surgery, fibroids are cut in small pieces and then removed from the body.
    For this procedure, the patient has to stay for one day in the hospital and recovery period for this procedure is 2-4weeks. This procedure is also performed robotically to give better and noninvasive results.

    Hysteroscopic Myomectomy procedure

    This procedure can be done under local or general anesthesia according to the size of fibroids. In this procedure is nonsurgical so no incision has been made.
    During the procedure lighted and thin scope has been inserted through vagina and cervix into uterus and liquid is passed in the uterus to make it wider. Then the pieces of fibroids are shaved off with wire loops and are washed out with liquid.
    It is an outpatient procedure so in 2-3 days patient gets to recover.
