IVF (In-Vitro-Fertilization) treatment does seem quite complicated and overwhelming, especially if you don’t know much about it and are going for it for the first time. But once you know about it, you might feel a little tad comfortable about it.

What to expect before the start of the treatment

IVF treatment is definitely a pretty labor-intensive process. But with help from a good enough Hospital or clinic (Like our Asha Test Tube Baby Centre, Moga), it became a little easier.

Before the treatment, you need to understand the process, the financial responsibility of all the processes. We will understand the process in the paragraph below, and for the financial responsibility, IVF cost varieties for every couple.

Let’s start understanding the process

1. Medication or stimulation phase

At the very start, for around 10-12 days the woman has to take fertility medications (generally, hormonal shots) to stimulate the ovaries to produce more eggs than it usually produces, in a menstrual cycle.

Without such drugs, females usually produce 1 or 2 eggs in a month, but the IVH cycle requires much more eggs to mature. With hormone injections, females can produce more than a dozen egg cells.

Blood work and ultrasounds also happen during this time. You can maintain a healthy diet and overall healthy lifestyle to ensure the growth of healthy eggs.

2. Egg Retrieval phase

After 10 or 12 days of medication, the eggs are removed from the ovaries with the help of an ultrasound-guided needle. At the same time sperm is obtained from the male partner.

The collected eggs and sperms are then combined in a Petri-dish or test tube, to form some embryos. But in some cases, other assisted reproductive technology is needed to be used such as ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection).

3. To Pregnancy test

After the embryos are created, they are kept in observation for days to come. Many tests are then performed on them to ascertain if they are of good quality, Then the best quality embryos are selected and transferred to the womb of the receiving mother.

After the transfer, you have to wait patiently for about 2 weeks, after which you need to return to the clinic for pregnancy tests, to determine if the process worked as expected.
